Extreme Heat - tomorrow 6/12/25
There is a severe weather forecast for tomorrow and some adjustments may be necessary. Currently the BOM forecast is for a maximum of 40, with the "feels like" forecast to top out at 35.
The umpires - PDCUA, Player umpire or the two junior coaches in that role - are the sole judges of the fitness of conditions for play. They determine if conditions are "dangerous or unreasonable" and should suspend play if they consider that they are.
The PDCA Extreme Heat Policy sits over that and comes into effect if the triggers in that policy are reached while play is occurring. The policy is copied below.
Any interruption to play caused by the weather is covered in the PDCA rules for each format.
The Captains should monitor and manage their players' welfare, particularly younger players if juniors are playing in senior matches, and older players. Rest them when required.
There are some adjustments to Playing Conditions for tomorrow:
Stage 1:
7.45am matches - unchanged
10.15am matches - reduced to 18 overs with a drinks break after 9 overs in each innings. Balls bowled and balls faced will need to be adjusted.
Stage 2:
All matches reduced to 27 overs with a drinks break after each 9 overs. All other usual schedules and rules apply.
Stage 3:
These are two day matches and will be played under usual rules with the extreme Heat Policy observed regarding extra breaks. Time lost is covered under usual two day rules.
Senior Cricket:
These are two day matches and will be played under usual rules with the extreme Heat Policy observed regarding extra breaks. Time lost is covered under usual two day rules.
Notes:
-
The umpire(s) may suspend play due to "unreasonable" conditions
-
The Extreme Heat Policy is activated when the "feels like" triggers are reached if play is occurring
-
The Heat Policy applies to the type of match: senior settings for senior matches, junior settings for junior matches
-
Any interruptions to play are dealt with under the rules as would any weather interruption.
Please ensure all coaches, captains and players who will be umpiring are aware of the above.
Extreme Heat Policy 1.4
The fitness of conditions for play at each venue are at the sole discretion of the Umpire who shall decide whether play begins, continues or is suspended based on the conditions and circumstances at that venue. If play is taking place it becomes subject to the Extreme Heat Policy if temperatures reach levels described in that Policy.
SMARTPHONE APP “The Weather Channel” shall be the official App for sourcing temperature data. The “feels like” temperature shall be the official temperature measurement. Smartphone location settings must be enabled.
CESSATION OF PLAY Level 1 – The umpires shall schedule additional drinks intervals in the event that the “feels like” temperature exceeds 37 degrees Celsius (32 degrees for Junior matches). The drinks interval shall be of 5 minutes duration. Players and umpires may leave the field of play during this interval.
Level 2 – Play shall cease immediately in the event that The Weather Channel “feels like” temperature, at the location, exceeds 41 degrees Celsius (37 for Junior matches). Resumption of play – Play shall resume if the “feels like” temperature drops to 41 degrees (37 for Juniors) or less. Loss of playing time due to Extreme Heat is treated as any other weather-related interruption. PDCA reserves the right to cancel a round based on a forecast of extreme heat.
